Golden Cross Foundation and ENCORE Ministry Committee to Become ENCORE Ministry

By Kent McNish

When the calendar flips to 2022, ENCORE Ministry will be the combined organizational name for two entities of the Tennessee Conference that will unite to support older adult ministry in the Tennessee-Western Kentucky Conference (TWK).

The current entities are the Golden Cross Foundation and the ENCORE Ministry Committee.

ENCORE Ministry will provide older adult ministry resources, leader training, church consultations, and grants to equip TWK churches for ministry by, with, and for older adults. TWK churches will receive ENCORE Ministry services at no cost.

Dr. Richard Gentzler, director of the current Tennessee Conference ENCORE Ministry Committee will direct the committee’s mission of providing older adult ministry resources, leader training, and consultations.

“I am excited to continue to work of the ENCORE Ministry Committee in the new TWK Conference,” Gentzler said. “The committee has served pastors and older adult ministry church leaders in the Tennessee Conference since 2015. I look forward to continuing those relationships while forming new ones with our brothers and sisters in the Memphis Conference.”

For more information, contact Gentzler at richard.gentzler@tnumc.org or at 615-400-0539.

ENCORE Ministry’s other core activity will be to provide matching grants to TWK Conference churches, districts, and conference agencies. Those grants will support creation of older adult ministries that benefit senior adults in spiritual fellowship, food security, access to healthcare, affordable housing, transportation, and church building accessibility.

“We are excited about funding older adult ministries in TWK congregations,” said Golden Cross Foundation Board Chairperson Charles Hewgley. “This will continue a successful grant program that began seven years ago in the Tennessee Conference. Since 2014, the Golden Cross Foundation has given more than $600,000 in matching grants to more than 80 Tennessee Conference churches and agencies.”

For grants or funding information, contact Golden Cross Foundation Executive Director Kent McNish at kmcnish44@gmail.com or 615-479-6175.

Like its predecessors, ENCORE Ministry will operate exclusively from gifts and grants from generous donors. It will not receive apportionment dollars from the TWK Conference.
